About the Journal
PRESENTATION
The MERCOSUR Social Institute (ISM) publishes the Journal MERCOSUR of Social Policies (RMPS), with the objective of promoting the generation and dissemination of specialized knowledge on the social protection systems in force in the MERCOSUR member countries. In addition, the journal seeks to consolidate a strong group of researchers, academics, and technical specialists with experience in analyzing the priorities established for MERCOSUR social integration.
The Journal is a peer-reviewed scientific publication, supported by the research departments of the member states of the bloc and the ISM’s Department of Research and Promotion of Regional Social Policies, as well as strategic alliances established with public universities in the region.
SCOPE AND THEMATIC FOCUS
The MERCOSUR Journal of Social Policies (Print ISSN: 2523-0891; Online ISSN: 2663-2047) is a scientific publication of the MERCOSUR Social Institute. It serves as a platform for the community of academics, practitioners, and social policy makers in the region to present their work; to promote publication and the exchange of knowledge within the community of scientists, academics, state technicians, and policymakers working in the field of social public policies.
Articles may address studies on the social protection systems of MERCOSUR countries.
The journal accepts submissions in the following formats: Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Letters to the Editor, Book Reviews, and Special Sections such as Debate Topics, Essays, Reflections, Case Analyses, and Conference Presentations.
PERIODICITY, LANGUAGE, FORMAT, AND OPEN ACCESS
The Journal was established in 2017 and was published semiannually until 2021. As of 2025, it adopts an annual periodicity, being published each November.
It accepts manuscripts in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, with title, abstract, and keywords translated into all three languages.
The journal is published in electronic format under an open access model.
All published content is freely available. Submission and publication of articles are not subject to any fees.
ORIGINALITY CRITERIA
Manuscripts must be original and unpublished—they cannot have been published or be under review in any other scientific journal or dissemination medium. The RMPS adopts a peer-review process, particularly valuing the following aspects: originality of the study; timeliness and innovation; relevance of results and contribution to scientific knowledge; methodological quality; presentation (clarity, conciseness, precision); organization (logical coherence); and the use of updated bibliographical references.
Submission of manuscripts for publication implies acceptance of these conditions.
The RMPS is not responsible for the opinions, results, and viewpoints expressed by authors in their various contributions to the journal.
OPEN ACCESS
The MERCOSUR Journal of Social Policies is open access; all content is freely available to users. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, as well as use them for any other lawful purpose, without requiring prior permission from the author.
CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE
All journal content is published under the Creative Commons CC BY License, which allows authors to retain copyright while enabling users to share, copy, redistribute, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the content in any medium or format, for any purpose, including commercial. These actions do not require prior permission from the author, provided that proper citation and reference to the source are included.
PRESERVATION POLICY
The journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archive among participating libraries, allowing the creation of permanent journal archives for preservation and restoration purposes.
Regular backups of the files from the Editorial Management Platform (Open Journal System, OJS) are performed.
SELF-ARCHIVING POLICY
The journal accepts contributions previously presented in preprint servers.
COPYRIGHT STATEMENT
Authors whose articles are approved for publication retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.
PRIVACY STATEMENT
Names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes stated therein and will not be made available to third parties or used for other purposes.
