Abstract

The objective of this paper is to systematize the diverse visions of national social actors (politicians, unions, companies and academics) on the question of the future of work in Uruguay. Its relevance derives from the fact that a good part of how the future of work is configured will depend on the ability of the actors to give collective responses to the changes, to channel the conflicts and to take advantage and redistribute the positive impacts.

At a general level, the actors express themselves spontaneously and in a consensual way about the importance of vocational training to cushion changes in the workplace caused by technological changes, although the institutional tools to strengthen it do not enjoy the same consensus. Other dimensions analyzed by the actors refer to productivity, competitiveness and development, collective bargaining and union tools.
